Moments with Yaya

Singing

Yaya loves to sing. She sings while she plays with her toys, she sings when she is in the bath, she always feels happier having a tune in her head. Little does Yaya know that by singing, she is actually learning emotional development. All through their little lives, children are exposed to music and singing. Songs often stick in your head. It can trigger a memory, or remind you of your favourite TCV show.

Singing can actually encourage children to express their emotional awareness as well as improve their ability to communicate. In many schools, singing is used as a form of education and for some children, helps them build their confidence. Singing can actually help you to remember things. Studies have shown that children who sing while studying, remember their work better through singing techniques. If you think about it, we learn the words to a song far quicker because it is in true with a melody. Everybody who has a voice can sing! Some people have really beautiful voices and can go on to being professional singers when they grow up. The very first songs used to be very sad, and were sung in operas. Opera singers have very powerful vocal cords and sing a story in their music. Opera singers usually have an orchestra of live musicians playing for them as they sing their tale.

LEARN ABOUT SINGING

Singing

Singing with a group of people or children is called a choir. Children who sing in a choir are able to feel more support around them if they are a little shy of singing on their own. Having a group of children singing along with you, gives you the courage to sing a little louder, and enjoy the songs a little more. Singing is also about having fun. You can clap your hands and dance around, enjoying the song and the music. Not only is the singing good for mind and memory, but being able to dance around to the music allows your body to build motor skills as well. Children learn to concentrate better and are able to express themselves however they like. This is an important development in all children. Singing in a choir with other children also helps you to socialise with other children, which will encourage your self-esteem and ability to make friends as you get older.

Singing can be very therapeutic. If you are having a bad day or feeling a little down, it’s very hard to be sad when you signing your favourite happy song! Singing automatically increases the endorphins in your body. These are feel good hormones which make you feel happier!
