SINGING WITH CONFIDENCE

Episode 2

Description

Yaya loves to sing. She sings loudly whenever she can, but sometimes she gets a little shy in front of people she doesn’t feel comfortable singing in front of. This is a normal experience that children and adults can feel. We see many people on the television singing in front of masses of people, and they don’t look at all scared or nervous. How do they do it?

There are some simple tricks that you can do if you want to build your confidence with your singing. Sometimes it’s best to know people that you are singing in front of, even if there are one or two, it helps. Keep your eyes on those familiar faces and don’t worry about the rest.

Breathe deeply. Sometimes we get so nervous we forget to breathe properly, and this makes us feel even more anxious. Just breathe deeply and get enough oxygen through your lungs.

Enjoy it! If singing is something you love to do, just enjoy the whole experience. The love for singing will show in your performance, so just enjoy it! Singing is meant to be fun, unless of course you singing a really sad song. Either way, singing is a celebration. Dance a little, move your body, tap your foot. The people watching will more than likely be doing the same!

Do a few stretches before you sing. Stretching your body can enhance your actual singing. Stand straight up and relax your shoulders. You will immediately feel more relaxed. When you start to sing, and you make a mistake, don’t stop singing, just carry on. Most times, no one will even realise you have made a mistake. Just put all your focus on your song, and try not focus too much on the people watching.

Practice in front of the mirror, this will be fun and you can shake your body as much as you want without anyone watching. Sing loud and see how well you ding in your reflection. Singing on your own, will give you more confidence and practice, so when you have to sing in front of other people, you will be ready. Use your hairbrush as your pretend microphone. I’m sure you have already tried this once or twice. It’s a fun way to practice singing into a microphone.

It’s normal to have butterflies in your tummy that is just nerves. If you follow these above mentioned tricks, you should be good to go!
